Why Colorado is hard on leather
Low humidity pulls moisture out of leather, causing it to stiffen, crack along fold lines and lose its luster. Bags that would last decades at sea level need more frequent conditioning on the Front Range.
Condition twice a year
Apply a quality leather conditioner in spring and fall, working it into seams, handles and corners. Wipe off the excess and let the bag rest overnight before use.
Clean gently
Use a barely damp cloth and, for stubborn marks, a dedicated leather cleaner. Never use household detergents or alcohol-based wipes, which strip the finish.
Store with shape
Stuff the bag with acid-free paper or a clean cloth and store it in a breathable dust bag, never plastic. Keep it away from direct sunlight and heat vents.
Address stitching early
A single popped stitch spreads quickly under load. Have loose stitching re-sewn as soon as you notice it rather than waiting for a seam to open.
