Limited vs. lifetime
Most warranties cover manufacturing defects only, not airline damage, wear or misuse. 'Lifetime' typically refers to the expected life of the product, not yours.
What is usually excluded
Airline damage, cosmetic wear, damage from overpacking and normal wear on wheels, zippers and handles are almost universally excluded.
The service-center problem
Warranty repairs usually require shipping the bag to a regional center at your cost and waiting several weeks. For a broken wheel before a trip, that is rarely practical.
When local repair wins
For anything not clearly a manufacturing defect, a local repair is faster, often cheaper once shipping is considered, and does not leave you without a bag.
Keep your paperwork
Register the bag when you buy it and keep the receipt. If a genuine defect appears, you will need both.
