Spinner wheels
Four 360-degree casters let a bag glide upright beside you. They are easy on the wrist but exposed to impact, which is why cracked spinners are our most common wheel repair.
Inline (two-wheel) rollers
Recessed wheels on a two-wheel bag are protected by the case body and roll better over rough ground. They are less common on new luggage but remain popular with frequent travelers for their durability.
Single vs. double wheels
Double spinner wheels distribute load across two treads and are more stable, but they add weight and trap debris more readily. Single wheels are lighter and easier to clean.
Tread and bearing materials
Polyurethane treads are quieter and more durable than hard plastic. Sealed ball bearings outlast open bushings and stay smoother longer.
Choosing a replacement
Match the wheel diameter, width and axle size, then choose the best tread and bearing you can. A quality replacement often rolls better than the original.
